The “Mimesis” conceptual art project features the text of Aristotle’s Poetics handwritten on a t-shirt. Mimesis in Aristotle is the imitation of reality. In his book Poetics, he argues that art is not merely a copy of the world, but a creative reproduction of actions.
The term mimesis is very important in the philosophy of art because it offers a new perspective on the idea of copying: it is not mechanical repetition, but meaningful transformation. Mimesis raises the question not of accuracy, but of plausibility and expressiveness. This concept has become key in discussions about the boundary between original and copy, reality and its artistic reflection.
The idea of writing this text on a t-shirt aims to show that Aristotle’s ideas in this work are so fundamental that they imprint themselves directly onto the “human body,” that is, onto clothing.
This project required many hours of work, as the text was written entirely by hand. The fact that it is handwritten is an integral part of the concept — a blind act of copying that brings only fatigue and suffering. This very issue is addressed and debated by philosophers within the framework of the term “mimesis.”
